Ride-hailing and ride-sharing are very much a part of the culture in Baltimore, Maryland. Before the creation of mobile apps and crowd-sourced taxis, the people of Baltimore utilized a distinctive hand-signal to get rides from strangers. It was not uncommon for people to give other people a ride for small amounts of cash because of the poor service provided by the City's public transit.
Currently, riders use Uber, Lyft, and various other crowd-sourced taxi services instead. While there are still traditional taxi outfits in Baltimore, they tend to be smaller than what one would expect to see in such a large city. There is a version of the Yellow Cab company that exists in many other cities, but it is not nearly as prolific in Baltimore compared to some of the others due to the cost and the amount of service they provide.
Fortunately, Uber, Lyft, and similar companies are heavily integrated into the Baltimore public transit system. Depending on the types of cars needed, the cost of Uber and Lyft in Baltimore is more than fair.
Many notable areas in Baltimore require garage parking due to the density of the city. Up to three hours of parking can cost as much as $30. Traveling via Uber is significantly more cost-effective; for example, travel from Fells Point to Baltimore’s Inner Harbor will cost only $6-$8 for the standard Uber or Lyft vehicle size.
